The Department of Mathematics of the Persian Gulf University started working in 1996 and 4 years after the beginning of the work of the Persian Gulf University with the opening of two fields of pure and applied mathematics. Initially, this group had 3 faculty members (masters). The number of faculty members in the group increased to 4 and 6 in 1976 and 1978, respectively, two of whom were in the field of statistics. With the opening of the bachelor's degree in statistics in 2003, the name of the mathematics department was changed to the mathematics and statistics department of the Persian Gulf University. In 2010, the statistics group was separated from the mathematics group and the mathematics group was formed as an independent group at the university. Due to the importance of postgraduate education in 2007, the Department of Mathematics, with the permission of the Ministry of Science, recruited students in the fields of analysis and numerical analysis. Then, in 1390, with the launch of the master's degree course in algebra and the recruitment of students in the doctoral course in the fields of analysis and numerical analysis, the number of courses increased to 3 trends in the master's degree and 2 courses in the doctorate. From the beginning of its establishment, the Mathematics Department has organized or participated in one seminar and two conferences, which are: the second seminar on linear algebra and its applications in 2000, the International Conference on Chemistry and Mathematics in 2010 and cooperation with the General Directorate of Education in the 15th National Conference Math Education 2017. He has also experienced many opportunities and successes, which are: achieving the first rank of acceptance of the country's master of mathematics in relation to the number of graduates in 79 (the first graduation course of students) and achieving good ranks in national mathematics competitions in 1982 and 83 and 85 and winning bronze and silver medals by students.
